saba carnival - july 25-31, 2011

Saba Carnival is a week-long, island-wide party.  Every night there is a different band and party organized by a different group.  Two of the stand-out events were the Jump-Up and the Parade.  The Jump-Up began (nearly next door to us) with a band party at 3:00am followed by a slow walk down to The Bottom (~4:00am), and I think the festivities ended ~8:00am.  We didn't even need to leave the house to hear clearly the kick-off music, and Luca slept through it all.

Luca and I did attend the Parade, and we even joined our friends in support of the local AIDS Foundation.  The parade began at the University and then the caravan (3-4 "float" trucks, a bar truck, 3 band trucks, and many people on foot) made 3 laps (some groups made 4) around the main area of The Bottom before the heading to the sports field to continue the party until early morning.  Luca and I left after completing 1 lap, but I hear the subsequent party was a blast.

We all look forward to going to Carnival next year, too.

Here are a few photos.
